Anybody else tried this?
I did 6 months and then quit.
I was getting sick easily and got nervous about taking an immunosuppresent.
Psoriasis improved to a limited degree, but nothing dramatic.
Any other stories?

Re: Enbrel
Thu, June 24, 2004 - 11:15 AMIts an injectible.
It's a selective immuno suppresent.
2 shots a week.
Subcutaneous, self-administered.
VERY expensive (@$1000/mnth). If insurance hadn't paid for it, I wouldn't have tried it.
You're thinking of methyltrexate. -

Re: Enbrel
Sun, June 27, 2004 - 10:20 PMyikes, my liver didn't like methotrexate at all
after that and a much worse time with soriatane i gave up on non-topical treatments
having it on my face, ears, scalp and other highly visible places, i was willing to try the risker oral drugs at first, but after some bad experiences i decided i don't want to risk cutting my life short
i'd be nervous about an injectible also -

Re: Enbrel
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 10:54 PMZoloft, I had a similar experience with MTX. My doc told me that my insurance would refuse to pay for Enbrel unless the MUCH cheaper methotrexate proved ineffective. Against my better judgement I listened and took it for a month. That is some nasty, nasty shit; my subconcious was actually speaking to me directly at this point "Um, will you please stop killing us, RIGHT NOW PLEASE? -

Re: Enbrel
Sun, March 6, 2005 - 4:13 AMYeah, I did a base line blood test, then took one methotrexate pill, then had another test. My liver freaked out, I never took another pill and a month later another blood test showed that my liver was still sad.
My brother is on enbrel, and he likes it alot, but his risk tolerance is much higher than mine. I really don't like my skin, but not so much that I would poison myself to make it look better. (but I totally understand why others take those risks) -

Re: Enbrel
Tue, November 28, 2006 - 6:56 PMBump-
My doctor & I are checking to see if I'm a good candidate for Enbrel because my psor. arthritis (the onset started in june & has since jumped into seven joints) is progressing & she is concerned about it moving into my spine. She asked me to choose between Methotrexate & Enbrel by the New Year or stay on my current therapy of Prednesone & Sulfasalizate (not to mention all my topicals for my skin psoriasis). If I stay on my current therapy, I am only slowing the progression & not stopping it, like Enbrel may be able to do. (sigh)
I am worried about the lack of long term usage data, immunosupressants & the risk of infection & all the rest of it. But god help me, Methotrexate sounds like Poison & I do not want to go on that one.
anyway- that's my update. I just had a bunch of x-rays (feet, pelvis/spine & chest [to clear me of TB] & about 8 vials of blood taken- so let's see if Enbrel is the drug for me. Oh yeah. Let's see if my insurance covers it, too.
mutherfucker! (just needed to throw that out there)

Re: Enbrel
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 11:28 AMHi flakies...
I am on Enbrel again. (I am the unsubscribed who started this thread).
One month into it and my psoriasis has cleared tremendously. I also severely cut back smoking.
I'm gonna keep going with the Enbrel this time til they kick me off of it.
I'm tired of flakiness.... -

Re: Enbrel
Wed, April 18, 2007 - 3:02 AMBeen gone for a while, I lost interest in tribe in general, but I still think about this tribe from time to time. Hey Xander, congrats on the smoking cut back and the clearing.
My skin is at it's worst, and over the last year I've come to recognize that I have a pretty decent case of Psoriatic Arthritis. I just thought I wasn't a morning person and I had some aches and pains. I've learned that it isn't normal to need to set your alarm for two hours before you want to get out of bed so you have enough time to start moving your body before you can get going :S
My brother is still on Enbrel, he got enbrel based on his arthritis. He had knee, elbow, and scalp spots before, and now he is 100% clear. He siays it is a miricle drug and that he will never stop taking it.
My P is far worse then his was, and I too am tired of flakey-ness. I'm tired of stranger approching me from a distance on the street to offer their home remidies. I'm tired of not feeling okay about taking my shirt off, which prevents me from my favorite excesize of swimming. I'm tired of hurting in my joints and feeling stiff all the time. So, while I am very concerned about the potential health risks, I'll be starting on Enbrel tomorrow.
I plan to keep a photo journal of my P with Enbrel, but I imagine I'll on;y have the nerve to post it publicly if the treatment is very sucsesful. Best of luck to us all. -

Re: Enbrel
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 12:44 AMSo, it has been 4 months, I'm still on Enbrel,
I saw a huge improvment in my joints and morning stiffness in the first two weeks. That alone was like a miricle and I feel so much better now. It has been much easier for me to excersize now and I have been doing more of that, loosing weight and feeling even better
My skin is so much better that is amazing. I'm not 100% clear, but I don't have any more flakey itchy bloody patches, just a few dry spots that are easy to take care of with a little lotion (I still like the salisidic acid lotion and pine tar shampoo)
I didn't keep up with the photo journal idea because I am a lazy slack ass ... I quit smoking one month ago and also all but quit drinking and I haven't seen any additional improvment in my skin since then.
For me enbrel has been a miricle, and so I wanted to share that story with you guys. My docs at Kaiser didn't want to give it to me. I had to go over my whole medical history and past treatments and then I still had to back them into a corner with questions like, "Why don't you think Enbrel would be an effective treatment for me?" While talking about how it had been a miricle for my brother and so should work for me also, and stressing the points about how I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and even with all of that I felt like they almost still turned me down. I guess it is expensive and so they don't like to give it (pay for it)
